Cystoscopy

This is a procedure to look inside the penis, urethra and into the bladder. This procedure is a mainstay of many urological ailments. The procedure is done under local anesthesia and its a day procedure. We accept most insurances. We also perform this procedure on “Pay as you need” basis if insurance is not available.

You might encounter minor blood in the urine after the procedure.

Stent Removal

In case if you have stent placed elsewhere or by our physician. The stent shall be removed after it has done its job. The time duration for stent in the body depends on what has been done inside and what your physician has suggested. We numb the urethra using local anesthetic and use flexible scope to remove the stent. You do feel some discomfort but 90% of the stents are removed in the office these days.

How long the stent can stay inside me?

Stents are usually left for 1-6 weeks after stone surgery although occasionally they are left longer. Some patients have stents for the long term. These stents are usually changed at approximately 3-12 month intervals.

What is the purpose of stents in kidney or ureteric stones?

Ureteral stents are soft, hollow, plastic tubes placed temporarily into the ureter to allow drainage around a stone or to speed healing after a stone surgery. Stents are used for various reasons in patients with kidney stones. Stent is helpful in decreasing the pain after surgery. Small particles pass by the stent without causing any pain or discomfort.

What is the cost of stent removal in the office?

Stent removal is a combination of two procedures (1) Cystoscopy and removal and (2) stent removal. Normal office charges for stent removal are $350/. Normal charges with insurance or high deductible are around $1100/ in ambulatory care setting.
